First Team to Ghana
On December 3, a team of six business professionals from Dallas, Texas will be heading over to Yendi, northern Ghana to launch the first Phase I training for a group of 30 local participants. The word to describe this team is DIVERSE.
What does a hedge fund analyst, a high-end retail saleswoman, a CPA, a marketing director, a self-employed interior decorator, and a nonprofit director have in common? A perspective that as Christian business people, they have a mission to use their businesses, relationships, talents, and time to give back to the community and share with others the Good News of Jesus Christ. On this trip, they will be going to teach 30 micro-business owners in Ghana to do the same.
For four of these team members, it will be their first time to Africa. Excitement and anxiety naturally come with this new experience, but even more importantly, the team members have continuously displayed an attitude of humility to serve as we prepare for this trip.
Here is what the team will cover from Videre’s business training curriculum, drawing from team members’ own personal experiences:
- Foundational Principles of a Biblical Business
- Godly Motivation: Factors of Success and Failure
- Becoming a Servant I: Market Driven Business
- Stewardship I: Intro Finance and Budgeting
- Developing a Kingdom Business Concept
- Homework: Independent Market Research
Because most of the participants are illiterate, the training will be done in a round-table (or just round-sitting), oral form of discussions, story-telling, and demonstrations rather than a classroom lecture setting. The beginning of each training day will start with something like this…
When participants finish this phase of the program, they will do market research to gather the information necessary to create a viable business plan for their businesses in Phase II.
Phase II is January 21-30, 2011
Phase III is February 11-20, 2011
